Acne

From the pimples and blackheads of the teen years to the hormonal cysts of adulthood, acne can be disfiguring and emotionally troubling at any age. We can help clear your skin using the latest prescription products, as well as tried-and-true therapies developed over the years by our physicians.

Acne is caused by blockages and inflammation in the oil glands and pores of the skin. Topical products treat acne by reducing inflammation, minimizing bacterial colonization, and clearing blockages in the pores. Although improvement can take some weeks, diligent use of prescriptions speeds clearance.

For nodulocystic acne or acne recalcitrant to typical measures, we may prescribe isotretinoin (Accutane). Though this is a more intensive treatment, we carefully monitor patients as recommended by the FDA to ensure a safe, effective treatment course.

In addition to the above services, for patients well-controlled except for occasional cystic acne, we offer nurse visits in which our trained nurses and medical assistants treat specific cysts for more rapid clearance.
